Truth and Reconciliation Awareness Walk
The Region of Durham, in partnership with the City of Pickering and Town of Whitby, hosted a walk in recognition of National Day for Truth and Reconciliation on September 20.
The walk began at the Pathway to Reconciliation Crosswalk, located near the south entrance of Durham Regional Headquarters in Whitby , and continued along Rossland Road to Fallingbrook Park. Participants stopped at the park for a reflection activity before returning to Durham Region Headquarters.

Emancipation Day Celebration
Durham Region and community partners came together on August 1 at Esplanade Park in Pickering for the Durham Region Emancipation Day Celebration.
The free celebration included live performances, food vendors, children’s activities and an Art Exhibition hosted by the Youth Action Group.
Accessibility Conference
Abilities Centre, in partnership with the Region of Durham, invited residents and business owners to explore how accessibility and inclusion can elevate communities and businesses. The free conference provided focus on breaking down barriers in Durham Region and providing equitable access to services; working towards creating a more accessible and inclusive Region for all.
Business Showcase
The Region of Durham, in collaboration with local area municipalities and community partners, called on businesses interested in working with the municipal sector to showcase their products or services at the spring 2024 virtual Business Showcase.
The Business Showcase Event supports Durham's Regional and Municipal commitment to innovation and continuous improvement. This showcase bridges the municipal, public and private sectors and provides an opportunity for businesses to demonstrate products that would improve municipal operations and service delivery.
International Women's Day
On March 5, the uplifting International Women’s Day Celebration returned to Durham Region. Hosted by the Region's International Women's Day Committee, the free in-person event honoured the achievements of women in our communities.
Black History Month Celebration
Durham Region’s Black History Month celebration, Together We Rise Durham: Black History, Intersectionality and Joy, returned on February 1, in-person, at the Chestnut Hill Developments Recreation Complex in Pickering.
The celebration featured live performances; and a panel discussion on Black history and how intersectionality and Black joy have shaped their professional and personal lives.
This event was hosted by The Regional Municipality of Durham, in partnership with Durham Regional Police Service, Canadian Jamaican Club of Oshawa, City of Oshawa, City of Pickering, Congress of Black Women Whitby/Oshawa, DurhamONE, Lakeridge Health, Municipality of Clarington, Ontario Shores Centre for Mental Health Sciences, Pickering Anti-Black Racism Taskforce, The Township of Brock, Town of Ajax and Town of Whitby.
