"I have lived in Durham Region all my life. I have nearly 80 years’ worth of memories, from going to Ritson Road and King Steet Public School, where I made lifelong friendships; to swimming and fishing at Camp Samac; playing baseball at Bathe Park; going to the Oshawa Boys and Girls Club; and watching movies at the Biltmore and Regent theatres. I married my wife, raised my family, worked at my family's plumbing business and now I get to watch my grandchildren grow up here. I am so grateful to live in such a gem of a community that's given me so much."

Many Region of Durham long-term care residents grew up in Durham Region, including Diane. One special Durham Region memory for Diane is working in the kitchen at Ajax Pickering Hospital as a teenager; this is where Diane met her late husband, Keith.
Diane later worked at Ballycliffe Long-Term Care Residence in Ajax; and she and Keith had two children and two grandchildren. They were married 40 years before Keith’s passing. Last year, Diane moved into long-term care, where she maintains her positive spirit and great sense of humour.

"I have lived in different cities and towns, but there is something special about Durham Region and the people who live here. I always had the best time, no matter if I was having a picnic or going down to the lakefront. And now living at Fairview Lodge, I have met many wonderful people who have become my dear friends."
