Together We Rise Durham: Black History Month Celebration
Join us for Durham Region’s Black History Month celebration on February 1, from 6 to 8 p.m., at the Chestnut Hill Developments Recreation Complex in Pickering, for Together We Rise Durham: Black History, Intersectionality and Joy!
The evening will showcase talented performers including the Lift Your Voice Choir, Ngoma Ensemble and Riddim Cultural Arts Program; and conclude with a conversation among panel members on Black History, and how intersectionality and Black joy have shaped their professional and personal life experiences. Refreshments will be served.

Cultural Expressions for CHANGE Inc presents its Annual Black History Month Celebration
Cultural Expressions for CHANGE Inc presents its Annual Black History Month Celebration. It is Durham’s longest running and largest, free Black history month event with a wealth of quality content that celebrates the beauty of Black culture and the diversity of the Black experience in Durham region.
Hosted by Sean Mauricette, attendees will enjoy performances by Kunle, Tracy J and R.I.S.E. Edutainment and engage in a fireside chat with the first Black Speaker of the House of Commons, The Honourable Greg Fergus.
One of the most important moments of the event will be the presentation of the prestigious 2024 Madiba award to community leader, Dr. Leroy Clarke. The award honours a leader of African ancestry in Durham Region whose experience embodies Nelson Mandela’s values, vision, and commitment to overcoming barriers in his long fight for freedom and equality.
This year’s event is presented in partnership with the Town of Ajax, City of Pickering, Durham District School Board, Durham Catholic District School Board, Pickering Anti-Black Racism Taskforce, Durham Children’s Aid Foundation, Ajax Public Library, Congress of Black Women of Canada, Ontario Region (Ajax/Pickering, Oshawa/Whitby) and Durham Black Coalition with funding provided by the Ontario Arts Council and Government of Ontario.
Durham Black Educators Network Black History Month Celebration
The Durham Black Educators Network (DBEN) is hosting a Black History Month Celebration on Thursday, February 15 from 6 to 8:30 p.m. at Ajax High School. The event will be family focused with a buffet dinner and dessert, keynote speaker, student entertainment, a silent auction and a vendors' alley. We hope you can join us as we celebrate our Black students through performances and visual artists.

Clarington celebrates Black History Month: Black Vendor Village
The Municipality of Clarington is hosting its first-ever Black Vendor Village in honour of Black History Month.
When: Saturday, February 24, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Where: Garnet B. Rickard Recreation Complex, 2440 Highway 2, Bowmanville.
Everyone is welcome! Join us for music and performances; meet members of Clarington’s Diversity Advisory and Anti-Black Racism Committees; and take part in activities hosted by the Clarington Library, Museum and Archives. The Vendor Village will be open throughout the day, with local Black-owned businesses selling various products.
