The Regional Municipality of Durham, in consultation with the City of Oshawa, has initiated the Simcoe Street Rapid Transit Visioning Study and Initial Business Case (IBC). This process is designed to identify the most suitable form of higher order transit that operates in a dedicated right-of-way for the Simcoe Street corridor between Highway 407 and Lakeview Park Beach in the City of Oshawa. Higher order transit along Simcoe Street in the City of Oshawa was identified in the Durham Transportation Master Plan 2017 (TMP) and Metrolinx’s 2041 Regional Transportation Plan.

This study will explore opportunities to assess rapid transit investments, based on evolving best practises in the areas of diversity, equity, and inclusion. It will also guide how Simcoe Street will evolve and grow—with a focus on mobility, sustainability, equity, economic opportunity, and land use.
