Durham Region Summer Student Employment: Information Sessions for Black, Indigenous and equity-deserving post-secondary students

Each year the Region of Durham employs post-secondary students in its various departments through its Summer Student Employment Program.

While these summer positions are open to all eligible post-secondary students, research shows that Black, Indigenous and equity-deserving students remain underrepresented among applicants.

Information Sessions

To break down barriers, clarify the process to apply and encourage more applications from Black post-secondary students, the Region of Durham’s Anti-Black Racism Committee and Staff Engagement Working Group, as well as its Human Resources team are hosting virtual Summer Student Information Sessions —college and university students who are part of Black, Indigenous and equity-deserving communities, and looking for employment this summer, are invited to attend.

Please note, students attending these sessions are not guaranteed employment. They will still need to apply through the recruitment portal and participate in the competition process, if selected.

The Region is committed to employment equity and welcomes applications from people of all identities. We do not tolerate racism or discrimination of any form.

Topics covered during the sessions

  • Why you should consider working at the Region.
  • How the summer student program provides an opportunity to gain work experience and develop career skills that will support your transition from post-secondary education to future full-time employment.
  • Hear what it’s like to work at the Region from current employees and past summer students.

  2. January 22, 2026, from 6 to 7 p.m.
