Regional E-Scooter Bylaw
Consultation has concluded
The Regional Municipality of Durham is seeking input from the community to help shape the Regional E-Scooter By-law. The Regional E-scooter By-law will identify where and how e-scooters can be used in Durham Region.
Background:
On January 1, 2020, the Ministry of Transportation of Ontario (MTO) implemented a new five-year pilot program to permit electric kick scooters (e-scooters) on Ontario’s roads. Under the pilot, MTO gave municipalities the ability to prohibit where e-scooter devices may travel including on roads, paths, trails and other property under their jurisdiction.
In response to this pilot, the Region of Durham is proposing the creation of a new Regional E-scooter By-law that will clearly outline regulations to define and enable the safe operation of e-scooter devices and establish measures to enforce their safe operation on regional roads and property.
