What is this Project?

In 2022, Durham Regional Council passed a resolution identifying Durham Regional Local Housing Corporation (DRLHC) properties to be considered for revitalization. By redeveloping these properties, the Region of Durham will be:

• Providing people with more, higher quality affordable housing
• Creating mixed income communities with a mix of market rent and rent-geared-to-income homes

The Region and DRLHC has identified two properties, Malaga Road and Christine Crescent, as part of Stage 1 of the redevelopment.

We see an opportunity to better serve the needs and wishes of existing tenants and the surrounding community. Our vision to create vibrant, diverse and healthy neighbourhoods will involve:

• Providing a range of housing for diverse needs.
• Creating new modernized housing.
• Supporting a sense of community and pride of place.

Phase 1: Vision and Principles (October to December 2023)

We have recently completed Phase 1 of our engagement process which included:

• Meet and Greets
• Neighbourhood Walks
• Survey #1
• Tenant Drop-ins
• Community Open Houses

Phase 2: Design Concepts (January to February 2024)
