We want your input on Regional Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) Initiatives

Durham Region's Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Division is reviewing and developing equity and inclusion-focused strategies and programs. It is important that the Region of Durham is a place where diversity is embraced and each one of us is valued and included. Creating a strong sense of belonging helps to harness what makes us unique in ways that drive leadership, co-operation, innovation and service excellence. 

We want to hear from you oproposed initiatives and to hear about your ideas on what we should also consider including.

Consultation Overview

Durham Region's Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Division works with staff, service providers and local communities to advance reconciliation, equity, anti-racism and accessibility through evidence-based policies and practices.

We are currently developing plans and activities for the following initiatives:

  1. Community Safety and Well-Being Plan.
  2. Durham Local Immigration Partnership Community and Inclusion Plan.
  3. Regional DEI strategy.

Between November 1 and December 2, 2023, the Region is connecting with the Durham Region community through a short survey and in-person and virtual consultations sessions.

    The Regional Municipality of Durham is committed to fostering inclusion within local communities and embedding equity in all regional programs and services. We are currently reviewing and developing equity-focused strategies and programs and want to provide residents with an opportunity to share feedback on proposed initiatives and to bring ideas forward.

    The results of this survey will inform the development of the Region's DEI plans and initiatives, such as those that aim to increase inclusion, improve social connection, and support newcomers. 

    Completing the Survey

    Participation in this survey is entirely voluntary. Although you are encouraged to complete the entire survey, you are welcome to skip any questions you do not wish to answer. We will still benefit from the data you choose to provide.

    The survey will take about ten minutes to complete. If you have questions, please email diversity@durham.ca.
