Durham Region Public Art and Creative Placemaking Hub

Durham is one of the fastest-growing municipalities in Ontario. As our cities, towns and spaces evolve, public art and placemaking invites people to connect in new and unexpected ways. Inclusive and accessible public art and placemaking can reflect the unique and diverse population, enhance the vibrancy of our communities, support local artists, and strengthen local pride.

  • How can regular citizens propose or request public art? For example, if they'd like to see an electrical box or other piece of municipal property be painted, how could they request that the Region take on that project?

If you have ideas for public art projects, please share them with art@durham.ca. Keep in mind that the infrastructure you see out in your community might be owned by different entities such as your local area municipality, Durham Region, the local electricity distribution company, or others. If the infrastructure is not owned by the Region, we will let you know.
