National Organ and Tissue Donation Awareness Week

16 April 2026

Right now, there are more than 1,600 people waiting for a life-saving organ transplant in Ontario, with thousands more awaiting tissue transplants. Sadly, every three days, someone will die waiting.

During the last full week of April each year, we recognize National Organ and Tissue Donation Awareness Week—a week dedicated to raising awareness about the critical need for more donors across the country.

This week also encourages Canadians to register their decision to become a donor themselves, and is a time to recognize the selfless donors who have saved or improved lives.

To show up support and create awareness in advance of National Organ and Tissue Donation Awareness Week (April 19 to 25), the Organ Donor flag was raised at Regional Headquarters this morning (April 16).
